Removals Advice

To help make sure the day isn't too tiring.

Moving home should be an exciting time, not a burden. The key is to plan your own actions and make sure everyone else is focused on your needs. Keep in touch with tradesmen, solicitors, your removal company. They should all keep you informed but if you are in any doubt give them a call, not least the day before you move.

Removals advice can take in so much and we don't doubt many of our readers could add to our notes from their experience. If you have any tips you would like to share please let us know, for now we can suggest a few of our own.

  • Talk to neighbours at both addresses before you move. Arrange parking for yourselves and the removal van, in the case of the new home, a good chance to introduce your family and learn more about the area.
  • Plan your route to the new house and a couple of alternatives. Make sure you have a street map of the new location and if possible, check online traffic reports before you leave. We will do the same and let you know of problems but no harm doubling up.
  • Keep a camera handy to photograph meters as a back up to written recordings. Also useful for anything that might be queried by your buyers, not easy to disagree with fixed images, especially if they have a time and date stamp.
  • Have tags made for pets with your name and new phone number so they are ready to be fitted to collars before you move. If your pets can suffer from sickness or anxiety whilst travelling, talk to your vet.

Above all, keep in mind you are moving for a reason and seeing that fulfilled will be a pleasure. There is naturally more to cover than the points above, which we will try to do in this section and by practical advice if you want to contact us. You don't need to be a customer, we are happy to share the experiences many removals have offered

A Safe Move

Which we wish for everyone.

Our removals advice is meant to be positive and we have learned how capable many of our customers are. Still possible to make a slip you wouldn't normally on a busy day and we included a few cautionary videos in the advice section you might like to click through to:

  • Security for your home is a natural concern. This shouldn't be overlooked on moving day, or as part of planning early needs at your new home.
  • Moving with children of all ages can be an art in itself. Keeping the older members of the family occupied and younger ones safe.
  • Finding good tradesmen can be awkward if you move to a new area. There are a few suggestions you might find useful.
  • Preparing for moving day will avoid hitches and make the first few hours at your new property even more of a pleasure.
  • Renovating antiques of all types. A few formerly loved possessions which turn up during the move can be brought back to life.

There will be more in the removals advice section as time goes on. We hope you find the current entries useful and check for others whenever you wish. Moving has a reputation for being stressful but doesn't need to be, much concern can be set aside by planning and good support.

If you are moving yourself, or have your move planned, we wish you luck in your new home. Should you wish to learn more about the way Farrer and Fenwick work with their clients, take a look at our Surrey removals page, or if you are in that area, the entry for our Guildford removals office.
